What is the Fondation GérardDelage?

Our vision

Québec, host par excellence in America

Our mission

Promote the increase in competence and savoir-faire in the Quebec hospitality sector.

History

In 1980,  the COFAG (Comité Organisateur de la Fête à Gérard) organised a  soirée to celebrate the many years devoted to the tourism industry by Gérard Delage. With the generous contribution of the 1,200 guests who attended, an amount of 85,000$ was collected and used to create la Fondation Gérard-Delage, a non profit organisation.

Hôteliers, restaurators, chefs, artists, the Institut de tourisme et d hôtellerie, offices du tourisme et des congrès, associations touristiques régionales et Hotel and restaurant suppliers collaborated to this event.

During many years, the interests collected on this capital were used to give scholarships to students graduated from the Québec Hotel schools in order for them to increase their competence. Following this, those who were in charge organised many profit making events such as: golf tournaments, wine cellar drawing, Gastronomic Symphonies, Roasts, Publications (Chroniques de l'Hospitalité Hôtelière du Québec  (période 1880-1940 et 1940-1980)) as well as a biography of Gérard-Delage.

Since 1980, more than 2,000 students and professionals have received more than 750,000$ to help them round off their studies in culinary art, wine tasting, administration and table waiting. In the last few years, scholarships have also been granted to professionnals wanting to better themselves in their chosen fields.

At the dawn of the new millenium, the Foundation has modified it's structure in order to better meet the increasing demands for bursaries. This includes an enlarged fiduciary body, a general manager and permanent offices that will permit us to increase capitalisation.

The strategic orientation will be to incite those companies benefitting from the tourism industry to financially support our efforts and objectives.
